*Why the name change from "DEI" (Diversity, Equity & Inclusion)?
- The name Belonging & Voice better aligns with the MI School District's equity mission of the 4B's, which include Creating a Deep Sense of Belonging and Broadcasting Voice.
- Our B&V Community is passionate about moving beyond the bare minimum of diversity and mere inclusion to honoring and wholly accepting the full identities of our students and families - a deep sense of belonging. See below for the various identities represented in MISD.
- As a PTA community, we also felt it most equitable to create space and elevate the voices of those experiencing our schools with a specific or intersectional identities. We commit a disservice when leaders advocate for a group without first hearing from those with a lived experience what a specific community's needs, wants and hopes are.
Share Your Voice. Find Connection.
Each school has a B&V Representative on its PTA Board - in addition to the districtwide Co-Representatives. We'd love to hear your your ideas, successes and concerns.
The Belonging & Voice Representatives each attend their local PTA's monthly Board meeting, and also meet every other month as a collective Belonging & Voice Committee to advocate, support and work together to strengthen our schools and district.
Stay in the loop about B&V community events and connection opportunities.
*OSPI Report cards also available by school.
