Gifted and Twice Exceptional Learners (G2EL)
The Mercer Island PTA Council's Gifted and Twice Exceptional Learners (SSALD) Committee is a sub-committee of the Mercer Island PTA Council's Diversity Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Committee. It is co-led by parent volunteers, Tam Pham, Kristy Sieckhaus and Mike Westover.
The purpose of G2EL is to establish a parent community and collective voice to help build awareness and understanding of the unique academic and wholistic needs of students who are gifted, twice exceptional, or have other related learning differences. The goals of the committee include:
- To advocate for the advancement of the academic and social-emotional education of students with learning differences and abilities, ensuring every student is able to reach their full potential.
- To connect parents, educators, and administrators to build bridges and increase understanding and awareness of issues and specific needs of students with learning differences and abilities.
- To provide support and a community for parents and caregivers.
- To provide research-driven information and education for parents, teachers, and administrators so they have the resources to implement instructional strategies that best meet the academic and social-emotional needs of students with learning differences and unique needs.
