Navigating Mental Health, Identity, and Family Between Cultures
Wednesday, March 26 · 5:30 - 6:30pm PDT, Virtual Event (Live)
Writer and therapist Sahaj Kaur Kohli grew up knowing what it means to straddle multiple cultures at once.
Like many children of immigrants, she was plagued by questions: Can I establish my own values and embrace where I come from? Is prioritizing my mental health really rejecting my culture? How do I set boundaries and care for myself when family and community mean everything?
In her groundbreaking work, But What Will People Say?, Sahaj challenges Eurocentric mental health models and offers a more inclusive approach to healing—one that acknowledges the deep connections between individual and collective well-being. Through personal stories, research, and practical tools, she helps multi-cultural families reframe generational trauma, destigmatize therapy, and celebrate cultural duality.
Sahaj Kaur Kohli, MaEd, LGPC, is the founder of Brown Girl Therapy, a mental health and wellness community organization for adult children of immigrants; a licensed therapist; and a columnist for the Washington Post’s advice column, "Ask Sahaj." Her first book, But What Will People Say? , was published in 2024.
Parents/caregivers, educators, health professionals, and community members welcome! Simultaneous Spanish interpretation will be available. Free admission.
